FEELING YOUR WAY TO WHAT YOU WANT
The other day I was having yet another conversation with someone about the whole idea of whether or not we do have the ability to create our own life experiences through the power of our thoughts. It seems I'm having a lot of these conversations lately.
Although the importance of our thoughts and learning to manage our thought process has been at the core of my training programs for many years now (and for more than a century many books have been written on the subject), it's only been recently that it's become a topic of interest for the average person on the street. I attribute much of this interest to " The Secret", a relatively new movie that's become extremely popular over these past several months.
What I've observed through having these conversations is that people seem to fall into one of three camps in regards to this subject.
1. The first camp is a rather small minority that strongly agrees with the concept and is actively engaged in applying it in a positive way in their own lives.
2. The second camp is by far the majority. They definitely think there's something to all of this, but don't really know what to do with it.
3. The third camp, for a variety of reasons, quite strongly disagrees.
What's interesting to me is that the concept itself has been around for a very, very long time. In fact, it's been with us throughout our recorded history and is included, in one form or another, in the texts of every major religion I've been exposed to.
Perhaps the cause of much of the confusion and dissention surrounding this subject is a lack of understanding of how it actually works
and also, the importance of the part our feelings play in all of this. So today we're going to have a closer look at that, and I believe that whichever camp you belong to, you'll at least find it interesting.
But first a question. How good would you say YOU have been at bringing desirable experiences, people and things into your life? Would you rate yourself excellent, fairly good, or poor?
Let's do a really quick little exercise that will help clarify this for you, after which we'll look at a nifty little tool (one you already own but may not know how to use) that you will find very beneficial. Are you game? Good, let's begin.
Pick a life area that's important to you, any area (your career, health, romantic situation, money, weight, relationships, whatever). Take the first one that jumps out at you
have you chosen? Excellent, now write it down on a piece of paper.
Next, ask yourself this question, "How good am I at bringing what I want, rather than what I don't want, into my life in this area?"
and rate yourself on a scale of 1 -10 (ten is high, one is low). This should take just seconds.
Write that number down on the paper beside the life area. Don't worry; you can do it. Your answer is for your eyes only, no one else needs to know ... besides, when you're done you can run the paper through a shredder if you'd like.
All right, now choose another life area and do the same thing
then another. Do this with each life area that's important to you at this time. This shouldn't take long, maybe a minute or two, especially if you go with your first impressions (I just did it again myself in under a minute).
Are you done? How did you do?
If you're like most of us you are probably noticing that your scores are not consistent from area to area
some are high and some not so high. The score itself is not the most important purpose of this exercise however. What's most important is to become aware of your score.
Your next step in this exercise is to give thought to how you feel about your life in each of these areas. As you look at each area individually what feelings come up? Are they feelings such as joy, contentment, gratitude, satisfaction, enthusiasm, purpose or optimism? (Let's call these the positive feelings group.)
Or, are they feelings such as frustration, resentment, disappointment, resignation, fear, dissatisfaction, confusion or pessimism? (We'll call these the negative group.)
What you'll likely notice is that when you consider a life area in which you scored high, you are experiencing feelings that fall into the 'positive' group
and if you consider an area in which you scored low, your feelings fall into the 'negative' group. The main thing here is to make the conscious connection between your feelings and your outcomes.
Why make this connection? Because there are a series of natural laws (one of which, the Law of Attraction, is dealt with in that movie) that explain how it is that we get what we get in life, and our feelings hold the key to living in harmony with them.
To better understand, consider this:
· Everything in our universe is energy with a particular vibrational pattern or frequency (the study of quantum physics supports this). This includes solid matter, light, sound
EVERYTHING.
· Our thoughts are also energy, with their own specific vibrational frequencies.
· We (you, I, everyone) are essentially electro-magnets that are attracting people, circumstances and things into our life that are of a similar vibrational frequency to the vibrational frequency of our dominant thoughts (whether positive or negative).
In other words our thoughts determine our vibrational frequency, and it's that frequency that determines what will be attracted to us, and us to it (think of tuning into a particular radio or television station
you only receive the signal of the station you're tuned into). This kind of gives a whole new meaning to that old Beach Boys song 'Good Vibrations', doesn't it?
Now let's take another step:
· Our thoughts determine our feelings (just try thinking angry, spiteful thoughts and feeling good at the same time
it doesn't work). Therefore, our feelings are actually an indicator of our thoughts (this is very important
please remember it).
· The more clear and focused our thoughts, the stronger or more intense the feelings.
· The stronger the feelings or emotions attached to our thoughts, the greater their attractive power (again, whether positive or negative).
In effect, what this means is that we are ALWAYS attracting into each area of our life experience that which is in vibrational harmony with our habitual or most repeated thoughts regarding it. The speed and effectiveness of this attractive process is determined by the amount of feeling attached to our thoughts. The amount of feeling in turn, is typically determined by the degree of clarity and focus we have surrounding that subject.
I realize that if you haven't previously been exposed to these concepts it might be a bit confusing or overwhelming, but if that's where you are please take time to give this serious consideration.
Now here's another biggie. Every life subject has two aspects to it, the 'wanted' and the 'unwanted'
AND, we will always attract into our experience the one which we are in vibrational harmony with.
This is critically important to understand because although we may want something (say, a good relationship with a co-worker), if our dominant thoughts are on the unwanted (how lousy that relationship is at this time), we will be in vibrational harmony with the current unwanted condition of the relationship and in turn, attract more of the same into our experience. We can't attract the 'wanted' if our focus is on the 'unwanted'.
Now back to feelings. Any time our thoughts about a subject are OUT of sync (not in vibrational alignment) with what we want, we will have a 'bad' or uncomfortable feeling in our solar plexus area (the V at the bottom of our ribcage). And any time our thoughts are IN alignment with what we want in relation to that subject, we will have a 'good' or comfortable feeling there.
Personally, I think of this feelings area as my Thought's Monitor, and you have one too. It's a wonderful tool that lets us know (whenever we take time to consult it) whether or not our thoughts are in alignment with what we actually want.
We were born with this tool. It's free, easy, and foolproof. All we need do is pay attention to it and change our thoughts about a subject whenever it tells us we're out of sync.
So in a very real way, we can literally feel our way to what we want. Good feelings mean 'in-alignment' thoughts, which means we're on our way to attracting what we want. Bad feelings mean 'out of alignment' thoughts, which means we're on our way to attracting what we don't want.
The more focused our thoughts and the stronger our feelings and beliefs, the faster we attract. And again, this applies equally to the wanted and the unwanted.
This is kind of scary but exciting at the same time because it gives us far more control over our own life experiences (and responsibility) than we might have previously believed.
Now let's take this knowledge and relate it to a real life type situation, our hypothetical job, as we touched on in last month's issue of 'To Your Success'.
If our habitual thoughts surrounding our job centre on everything that's wrong with our working conditions, boss, co-workers and income, we will have ongoing negative emotions or feelings around that subject when we give thought to it. As a result, we will continue attracting more of the same undesirable outcomes into our life experience. All of the 'wrong' things relative to what we want regarding our job will keep appearing.
Yet, if our ongoing thoughts relating to our job are centered around gratitude for being employed, and looking for and noticing the good things about our working conditions, boss, co-workers and income, as well as looking for and focusing on solutions to those less desirable aspects of it, we will begin attracting more good things regarding that subject into our life experience
more of the 'right' things relative to what we want will appear.
Now let's go back to that little exercise we did earlier
you know, the one where we rated ourselves on our ability to bring what we want into our life.
With the understanding we've gained from this discussion, it's easy to see that in any life area in which our score was low, we obviously haven't been doing too great a job of keeping our thoughts focused on what we want. We can't have been, or our scores would be higher and we wouldn't be having 'uncomfortable' feelings around it.
The reality is that our thoughts have probably been much more focused on the 'unwanted' aspect of this life area than the 'wanted'. But now we can change all that.
All we need do is check in with our Thoughts Monitor on a regular basis throughout the day and substitute thoughts consistent with how we want things to be for those previous thoughts that were consistent with how we don't want things to be ... and when we do that with some degree of regularity, this is what will happen:
· With a change of thought will come a change of feeling.
· With a change of thought and feeling will come a change of attitude, action and intention.
· With a change of thought, feeling, attitude, action and intention, will come a change of outcome
it's as simple as that!
And the key to this personal transformation is our willingness and ability to FEEL our way to the life we want using our very own Thoughts Monitor.
Although this concept may be knowingly or unknowingly taught by most religions, consistent with metaphysical teachings, and validated by the most current 'science', it's actually not complicated. It's really quite simple and practical
at least it is if you understand the laws of nature, which are the rules of the game of life.
So have fun with this. You'll know when you've got it right
no one will have to tell you.
To your success,
Reg Neufeld
