Do You Know Your #1 Responsibility?

Please consider seriously the following three questions:

  1. Are you important to your company?
  2. If so, do you know why?
  3. Are you aware of what your #1 responsibility really is?

Before we delve into the answers we must consider this ... an important focus of any company must be on ‘profitably' providing products or services to customers in a manner that consistently meets or exceeds their expectations. After all, without customers there is no income ... without income there is no company.

Which leads us to these obvious conclusions:

  1. You are important to your company, very important, or they wouldn't jeopardize profits by paying you to be part of it.
  2. The reason you're important is that your company needs you to help in either getting or keeping customers.
  3. Your # 1 responsibility then becomes obvious ... it's to somehow assist your company in either getting or keeping customers, profitably. Your specific position or job description does not change this responsibility.

Simple, yes?

Although front line people are often mistakenly seen as the only ones bearing this responsibility, every individual and department is an integral part of this team endeavor and plays an important role in the end result.

Ownership, management, production, behind the scenes, as well as front line individuals and departments are each vital to the overall performance of the team and contribute to its success or failure. In the world of sports, a great individual play is almost always the result of solid work by behind the scenes teammates ... and so it is in the world of business.

In progressive, successful companies, all team members provide critical backup and support as needed to all fellow teammates. They make certain that ALL customers' dealings with the company, either direct or indirect, be as effortless, seamless and comfortable as is realistically possible ... vital in ensuring they continue dealing there.

Which brings us back to our original 3 questions:

  1. Are you important to your company? ... Absolutely!
  2. Why? ... Because your company needs customers!
  3. What is your #1 responsibility then? ... To help get and keep customers!

That's it, it's that simple .... and YOU are that important!

To your success,
